5/9 Week of Creating a Healthier Version of Yourself in 300 words or less
5 points to embed into your brain today to keep you going through temptations and help you become a healthier person. And today let’s talk about the dark side
Every other friend sells something weight loss related that is a sure thing. We have support groups and workout buddies. It looks like there is no way we can fail. But we do. We start over and over and still manage to screw it up. And most of the time we understand that the problem lies within, because we plan to fail. Here are 5 ways we sabotage ourselves (based on my own example)
Self Doubt
Can I really look like a person on a poster, who lost 120 lbs? Is it even possible for me to even dream of fitting into a size BLANK dress?
You might not look like a supermodel, but I bet you can look better than some of the people you know.
Underestimating
I am not ready for such a long walk – I am turning back! Listen to your body – not your brain. Your feet just might surprise you
Late Night Eating
Any time late nigh hunger strikes, we don’t usually go for the healthy food – it’s “bring on the crap food time!” Whatever your weakness is, recognize it and learn to fight back. Sweet tea can replace soda, crunchy vegetables will substitute for chips, and if you absolutely need to have something sweet – get a teaspoon of honey.
Finding an excuse
I know it is 12 pm and it is the time I have set for my workout, but let me just finish this Facebook post and answer this email.
Go ahead, lie to yourself – there will be another email and another Facebook post you have to address and you know it. Set the alarm and let me know if you find one that also kicks the chair from under you – I desperately need one of those.
Overthinking It
…This is a perfect time to go out for a walk, but I am so busy… I have committed to a 30 minute walk every day, but I have too much going on. Maybe I can skip it today? It sure looks like I have to skip it with this load of work...
Stop bargaining with yourself – just get up and go!
There is one answer to all self-sabotaging –

Cutting back on my ‘boredom’ and late night eating has been essential to trimming the inches!

you make some really good points. It’s all about mind over matter. I just power-walked a half marathon and there were times in the training that I almost quit. I did it one step at a time. I think we also sabotage ourselves by biting off more than we can chew, LOL. We should set realistic goals. It’s hard to stick to a weight loss plan that’s not practical
Way 2 Good Life says
Good for you. And I am with you – realistic goals rock!

Love that graphic. I should put it on my mirror. I need to work on my late night eating the most. I am turning to a warm mug of sweet tea as much as possible. Great tips as always.

PICK just started not allowing myself to eat anything with calories after 8pm this week. It’s made a huge difference! I can drink water, but that’s it. And I’ve lost 2lbs!! With doing nothing else! And I sleep better, and wake up feeling better too. It is still really hard to not snack at night. But I keep reminding myself how much better I feel when I don’t.

Major hi five and way to go on making it through

Very good advice! I have been known to let myself get caught in the self sabotage that you mentioned, all of them actually.

Thank you – unfortunately I can relate to all of them too

Late night eating and excuses are my biggest issues. I’m up way too late and eating to stay awake. Looking to break those cycles for sure!
