Is Your Hair Made of Donuts? – Review

Do you follow healthy lifestyle? Are you trying to eat healthy and want your kids to do the same? That is what I do – I have no soda in the house, we don’t buy candies, we try to eat fresh. But I fear the day when my kids go to school! It is one thing when kiddos go to a birthday party and have a pizza and a fountain drink few times year. I normally tell myself – it is only one bad food against a hundred good ones. But what happens when children go to school? How do I get them ready for the unhealthy food they will be facing every day?

Is Your Hair Made of Donuts? by Joy Feldman is a fun book explaining children the difference between good food and bad food. Kids want to understand why can’t they eat junk food and what happens if you do. My daughter didn’t quite know what junk food was before reading this book, but the sooner she understands the difference, the sooner we can start working on good food – bad food works.

Behind this story is the actual understanding what simple sugar of a donut can do to a child. Based on a personal experience, if you don’t eat bad food for a long while, junk food can shock your body and make you dream crazy dreams. That is what happened to the characters of this story. But I am not going to tell you anything else, You will have to find that out on your own.

I want to check this out! My little boy is refusing to eat most things except crackers these days, this book might be able to help him try other (healthier) foods. Thanks for sharing!

I try to explain bad and good foods to my kids, but also that moderation is key. I watch what I eat and exercise 5-6 days a week, but I have a day I eat so I have to explain that once in a while a treat is okay. We’re doing PALA right now for Scouts so that’ll be good for increasing my son’s activity level.

I love this! What a fun way to teach kids that they are what they eat! 🙂 I enjoyed the video of her reading to the kids and how excited and involved they all were. The donut hat? GENIUS! I’m definitely going to check around here and see if I can find the book for my kids 🙂 Thanks for sharing!
