Being a mom might be an incredibly rewarding experience yet it is one of the hardest occupations I know. Your boss is always demanding, and you are on duty 24/ 7. When did you get a raise or got a high-five for a job well done? It is easy for mom to get burned out and nobody likes a tired, cranky mommy. You need a vacation! However, for many moms, time off and rewards are not freely given. They must be taken and demanded. While you tend always to put everyone else’s needs before yours, it is equally important to rewards yourself. A family needs a happy mom to run at its best and here are a few ways for you to reward yourself for a job well done:

Congratulations mom - you did it

Schedule a Day for Yourself

Even if it’s just once a month, it is important to set aside time to get out of the house and do something for yourself. You can get your hair done, meet up close friends for lunch or even just sit down in the coffee shop with an excellent book and the latest magazine. You will be amazed at how refreshed you will feel when you return home.

Try something new

Another great way to reward yourself is to try something new. Maybe you have always wanted to learn how to play the piano or try your skills at rock climbing? Make sure you follow through on these new adventures and not let them fall by the wayside. It is important to make the time to try something new, learn a new skill or hobby. It is what makes life exciting and refreshing. You can even pass down your new found skills to your partner or children!

Take a nap

You may be tempted to finish your long to-do list rather than taking a nap, but it is good every once in a while to just rest. Instead of trying to get as much accomplished while your kids nap, why don’t you take one as well? You will wake up feeling refreshed and more energy to keep up with your children. Your long list will be there when you wake up, but it’s good to reward yourself for the things you have accomplished so far this week or day.

Enjoy Something

Sometimes you just feel that you need to get away, yet the circumstances won’t allow for even an hour off. My solution is “5-minute getaway”. No, you don’t physically leave your underaged kids unattended, but you mentally give yourself a five minutes. The trick is finding something you genuinely enjoy doing.

On my recent trip to the CVS, I discovered new OREO Thins. Why wouldn’t I want to try a new variety of my favorite cookies? And if these new thinner, crispier, OREO cookies will enrich my snacking experience, provide a whole new level of texture, and color my day in happy colors – I am on board!

I love sweets, and while I don’t suggest overindulging, a little sweetness can make any difficult day a bit more fun. While the older kids argue over a game, and the baby is playing with his favorite chew toy, I might just find my hiding spot. You might be able to find me in the opposite part of the house behind the only door in my house that has a lock for my 5 minutes of happiness.

What do I do? I might wash my face to get that feeling of freshness, check my Instagram stream just because I love beautiful pictures, and enjoy the crunch of my favorite cookies. By the way, OREO Thins come in 3 flavor varieties: Original, Mint, and Golden and that means I might just as well enjoy one of each – the crunch… the sweetness… the texture…

Where was I? Ah, the time is up, and I am ready to re-enter the world of mommyhood: Hey! Who left Legos on the floor? I am counting to 3, and if it’s still here on 3, you know what happens: 1…. 2…. Good Boy! What’s next?

And if you love OREO as much as I do, check out OREO Thins at the CVS, join them on Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter.

It can be hard to ‘get away’ but even a quick mental escape is nice! I agree, Instagram really helps me escape and unwind, looking at all the pretty photos! #client

I would enjoy these for dessert after dinner with my grandsons!

I would share them with my student teacher. She has worked hard this past semester to teach my class. I am so proud of her efforts esp when she has to give up being paid. She mazes me!
