Looking for Christmas Eve Traditions? Check out our list for the best of the best! These family friendly holiday tips are just what you need to create a new holiday theme for your family!

Family Friendly Christmas Eve Traditions

Go caroling

Get together a group of friends and family and head out through the neighborhood or a local retirement home and go caroling. This is one of the best ways to share holiday cheer and really, who doesn’t like Christmas carols? They are fun to hear and fun to sing.

Pajama night

Why not let the kids open a gift early? Start a tradition though, that every Christmas Eve they open a gift of new pajamas. Then everyone can slip on their jammies and enjoy some hot cocoa. It’s a fun tradition for the kids to open their new Christmas PJs every year.  We love these matching Charlie Brown Christmas Pajamas for the whole family!

Christmas movie night

Do you have a favorite classic Christmas movie? Is it It’s a Wonderful Life? A Christmas Story? Christmas Vacation? Start a tradition of your family gathering together and watching your favorite classic each year. Or you can mix it up and choose a different Christmas classic to watch each year.

Get takeout

Do you tend to spend the entire week preparing food for your Christmas meals? Are you tired of cleaning up after the big Christmas Eve meal only to do the same thing the next day? Why not give yourself a break and order takeout for dinner on Christmas Eve? Many families have a pizza night, while plenty other families order in Chinese. This is a great opportunity to sit down as a family and just enjoy your meal together.

Santa tracking

There are several websites that go live and track Santa Claus and his reindeer throughout their Christmas journey to deliver gifts to all of the children. Be sure and keep a computer open to one of these sites so that the little ones can get even more excited as he nears where are you.

Christmas light viewing

Pack up the kids, put some cocoa in thermoses and head out to view some of your favorite local Christmas light displays. Many communities have neighborhoods that are decorated for the holidays and you can probably even find some commercial displays to check out.

As you can see, there are tons of fun Christmas Eve traditions you can enjoy with your family this year.  Think outside the box, and combine some of these ideas with your own traditions to create a perfect family holiday.
