Aluminum bike frame or carbon fiber, if you ride – you know the difference. But how about going a little bit more unique – check out this cardboard bicycle created by an Israeli Inventor Izhar Gafni
Izhar Gafni, 50 has years of experience designing automated mass-production lines. However, his love for bicycles gave him an idea of making a bike out of cardboard. However, it took an idea and a lot of trial and error to get a pile of cardboard strolling the streets.
(Watch about cardboard bike on You Tube)I love what Izhar’s wife said to have to get the whole process going. She didn’t know if anything would come out of it, but she sure knew that unrealized idea would her life a living hell.
So, what is great about this bike:
- It’s very cheap to make
- It’s very light
- It doesn’t need to be adjusted or repaired
the solid tires that are made of reconstituted rubber from old car tires will never get a puncture,
“These bikes need no maintenance and no adjustment, a car timing belt is used instead of a chain, and the tires do not need inflating and can last for 10 years,” Elmish said..
A full-size cardboard bicycle weighs around 9 kg (about 20 lbs) compared to an average metal bicycle, which weight around 14 kg.

That is pretty darn neat, never seen anything like that before!! It’s like a piece of art.
It is amazing what creative people can do. Loved the video.
If he makes a version of this that folds, he’d have an EXCELLENT bike for commuters and apartment dwellers! What a neat idea! I do find myself wondering how comfortable of a ride it gives, with hard rubber tires, but I’m guessing this really isn’t a bike for leisure rides… more of a utilitarian kinda thing. Regardless, it’s pretty darn cool!
So cool! I am all about re-purposing industrial materials.
What a creative idea! This is totally something I would have attempted as a child. – Katy
That is AWESOME – I love that the tires never get punctured! And how light it is! My only concern: Me not leaving it out in the rain!
I wonder how they use them? Is their a market? Going to watch this video for sure right now!
What an amazing bike!!! This looks awesome!
That is crazy!! What an awesome idea!

That is so cool! I thought that was for some sort of art installation until I realized you can ride it that it is more durable in some ways then a normal bike and you are using recycled rubber!
Great to see everyones comments. BTW Krissy – the bike is completely waterproof!
