Though your little one may only be a baby, it is never too early to start playdates with them, especially during this holiday season. Playdates are not only a wonderful for your child to see other children and interact with them, but they are also an excellent opportunity for you to have finally some adult time and conversation. Throwing a baby play date is not as hard as it may seem. With a bit of planning, you will be able to host a great play date. Here are some great tips on how to throw a baby playdate:
Timing is everything
Talk with the other moms when their baby’s sleep schedule is and try to plan around it. Most often you will find that they best time for a playdate is actually in the morning. Babies are the happiest during that time of day. You want to make sure that the children are awake, and the play date is not during a time when they get restless or fussy.
Put away favorite toys
Maybe your baby has a favorite rattle, teether or blanket that they love. Avoid getting your child upset over another baby picking his toy, it is best to put these away before the playdate. Children at this age have a difficult time sharing, and it is especially hard when it is the absolute favorite item. By putting it away, you are helping avoid a bitter conflict.
Provide snacks
While most babies are probably just being breastfeed or taking the bottle at this age but it is nice to contact the other parents to see if anyone has any allergies to make sure you provide food that is baby safe. We are talking about teething biscuits, puffs or cheerios. Those types of foods are perfect for children. Also, make sure you provide some good eats for the adults. Have a pot of coffee ready to go and to provide some muffins or other pastry treats is always appreciated by the other parents.
Here are some quick ideas:
Cheese-n-Tomato Bites
If you just happen to have to have bite-size mozzarella cheese (also known as Bocconcini), use that. However, you can even use sliced deli cheese.
Hot Pocket Bites
You will love this one as it is the simplest of them all. Follow the instructions on the box to prepare your hot pockets. For convenience, keep a 12-pack around for all kinds of occasions. Have your pockets all warm and ready? Let them cool off just a bit and cut them with the sharp knife. Use the picks for the ease of use and fancy presentation.
Bite My Cracker
What kind of crunch do you keep in your pantry? Baguettes or Crackers would work perfectly for this appetizer. You will need that along with a cream cheese and a sliced cucumber. Any other vegetables can be used as decorations as well.
Have some fun activities
While babies are more exploring than playing, having some fun sensory activities is a great touch to a baby playdate. These can be having some edible playdough they can touch and explore with to some non-toxic finger painting. If there is extra activity left over, parents can take it home to continue the fun. You can make a great playdate!
