You need to really want to change. When you look in the mirror, do you say “I need to work out” just to forget about it 2 minutes later? When you are watching your favorite sitcom, do you think, “I probably could some sit-ups now”, but you chase the uncomfortable thought away. How do we end up being so comfortable in our 50-80 extra pounds? Here is my solution for your comfy couch syndrome.
Find something else to sit on
I swear do not sit on the couch! Sit on the exercise ball, floor or whatever else, but stay away from the damn couch and other soft objects.
Do not eat in front of the TV
You will overheat if you eat while watching TV. What portion control? You don’t even see what you eat – you are watching TV.
Make the TV work for you
Stick with DVR, Hulu or Netflix and watch the programs when it’s convenient for you. In other words, don’t plan your life around TV schedule – make it work for you (you are paying for it, don’t you?)
Move Your Butt
You can still see and hear while you do crunches, sit ups or whatever else. Dedicate first 10 minutes of your TV time to workout. Make it YOUR thing. Reward yourself with some time off when you are done.
Enough is Enough
Set the timer on the TV to shut it off and put the remote on the shelf, someplace you have to walk to get it. Do not plan to spend more than an hour in front of the TV and don’t keep TV as a background noise. You are just fooling yourself if you thinking it doesn’t slow you down.

But…but…but…that picture totally fits me! lol. I really need to find my air pump so I can get my exercise ball blown up and use it in place of my computer chair and the couch. Definitely need to do this.

This makes me think of my favorite saying…Your “butt” will get in the way of your goals when it is planted on a couch!

These are great tips! I need to implement them more, that’s for sure.

I do love my comfy chair…but these are good tips to remind myself about!

Of course you do! Your chair helps you to stay mobil and that is a completely different story 🙂
Once again, congrats on getting a faster set of wheels and a license to go with it

All great ideas. I get most of my exercise chasing the goats around. I am fortunate in that I don’t need to lose weight and (don’t hate me) I can eat anything I want and not gain any. One of my medications kills my appetite so I almost have to force myself to eat.

Those are all great tips and tricks to kick your butt in gear! I do love exercising and working out and my health issues have hindered that the past couple of months but I’m hoping when Spring hits my health will improve and I’ll be able to do more things! 🙂

We stopped eating in front of the TV a while ago- but it is still hard to get off the couch!

I read somewhere all these great stats about how many calories you can burn if you just to sit-ups or push-ups during the commercial breaks. Of course, I don’t remember the numbers but I do keep that in mind every time I find myself reaching for my phone to play Candy Crush during a commercial break. It makes a difference. – Katy

I like the last one. Enough is enough. I agree that setting the timer is important. I need to do this with my computer.

As a blogger it can be hard for me to want to get off the couch…but I can say that my laptop is currently being repaired and I have had to use my desk top for the past 3 weeks…..I find myself getting up to move around a lot more and I find that I am not snacking as I am sitting at my computer desk as much as I would sitting on my couch with my laptop…I guess I should blog like this more often!

I am working on getting off the couch, well my desk chair, more often. I really fell off the workout wagon, but I am getting back on track. Great ideas!
