1/9 Week of creating a healthier version of you in 300 words or less
5 points to embed in your brain today that will keep you going through temptations and help you become a healthier person
You need to really want to change. When you look in the mirror, do you say “I need to work out” just to forget about it 2 minutes later? When you are watching your favorite sitcom, do you think, “I probably could some sit-ups now”, but you chase the uncomfortable thought away. How do we end up being so comfortable in our 50-80 extra pounds? Here is my solution for your comfy couch syndrome.
Find something else to sit on.
I swear do not sit on the couch! Sit on the exercise ball, floor or whatever else, but stay away from the damn couch and other soft objects.
Do not eat in front of the TV.
You will overheat if you eat while watching TV. What portion control? You don’t even see what you eat – you are watching TV.
Make the TV work for you
Stick with DVR, Hulu or Netflix and watch the programs when it’s convenient for you. In other words, don’t plan your life around TV schedule – make it work for you (you are paying for it, don’t you?)
Move Your Butt
You can still see and hear while you do crunches, sit ups or whatever else. Dedicate first 10 minutes of your TV time to workout. Make it YOUR thing. Reward yourself with some time off when you are done.
Enough is Enough
Set the timer on the TV to shut it off and put the remote on the shelf, someplace you have to walk to get it. Do not plan to spend more than an hour in front of the TV and don’t keep TV as a background noise. You are just fooling yourself if you thinking it doesn’t slow you down.

LMAO at that graphic- We stopped eating in front of the TV a while ago, you really do eat less when you pay attention to your food!

Great tips! I love using the DVR function or Netflix. I will often watch a favorite show while I workout to stay off that darned couch that just wants to suck me in.

I didn’t have a TV when I was raising my kids and found that it really worked out good for me and they spent a lot of time being imaginative. I find now that I’m an adult I find more creative outlets than watching TV but enjoy watching a few shows.

I agree with the not eating on the couch! It has been a hard habit to break but I did it!

That picture of the cat is hysterical! My problem is not the TV…it is the computer! I definitely need to start making the time to go back the gym.

Way 2 Good Life says
This is my story of almost any day – Sit down on the couch while trying to put kids to sleep. Fall asleep before they do.

I love my couch. And I don’t have cable so working out during commercial breaks is broken for us. Thankfully I still hate TV though so we spend our time on the couch doing things that tend to be a little bit more fun.

Good ideas! I like to use the stationary bike, and I save shows I really like (only one at home who watches them) and watch the when I bike.

I’ve had a hot and steamy love affair with my couch too all this winter. But, it’s time to set the timer on the TV (great idea BTW) and dump my couch.
Angela says
Great motivation! I spend way too much time on the couch.
Stacey @ Newlywed Survival says
I swear, that cat is me! As I sit on my comfy couch writing this comment, I realize I need to get up and move!
