Doesn’t it seem like the holiday season would never end? But it is a beginning of January and we have a whole new year ahead of us. What resolutions have you made? Health? Career Goals? Charity Causes?
My post today is about something that took place right before the holiday season, but it is about good causes. I really hope that this new year you will get around to doing some good and sharing it with others and make sure you make it fun for the whole family.
Here is an email I got from my favorite local non-profit Creatively Caring, a local non-profit organization:
Creatively Caring has embraced the holiday spirit by calling local families to participate in a very important gift drive at Nibbles Play Cafe.
As in previous years, Creatively Caring has chosen to work with Glenkirk, a local agency that provides residential, vocational and day program services to adult individuals with developmental disabilities. Each year, Glenkirk holds its Lucy Coward Holiday Gift Drive, a project that ensures that every one of Glenkirk’s individuals receives a gift to unwrap and enjoy during the holiday season.
This is a kind of events anyone can host at the house or school. Creatively Caring asked for small things that would make a difference in somebody else’s life. You know what is needed for your cause, but here is an activity you can do with those who attend your event.
To be honest a trip to a dollar store or search through your closet can get you plenty of ideas of what activities you can host at your event, but a string of beads and a shoelace can make a child very happy .
How about a little project that is simple with only a fuzzy stick, color paper and a little creativity with a message for the leaves – and you got yourself something very special.
January might be a perfect time to plan a charitable event – most of us spend days indoors anyway – might as well put it to a good use.
Creatively Caring works with local businesses and non-profit organizations to enrich our community through fun, family service projects. Families with children of all ages are encouraged to participate in our projects which help people, animals and the environment.
Nibbles Play Cafe (Wheeling, IL) is a fusion of cafe and kids indoor play place, where adults can relax and young children keep busy in imaginative play! Nibbles has committed to support the community and its members.

What a wonderful program. I just love how much joy can be had from such simple components. The pipe cleaner and construction paper leaf idea is just brilliant

This sounds like a great program that kids can really get involved in and have some fun while learning about the spirit of the season. Those little pipe cleaner ‘trees’ are adorable!

Such a great cause. And I just love the smiling face when he proudly presents his bead work. Every child deserves that opportunity to create and feel proud of that creation. Truly, that face is going to stick with me.

That’s a great cause. I love that they’re purposely keeping it affordable, therefore easy, for people to give.
