The holiday season is almost here and you know you will be spending the next month and a half visiting relatives, having friends over at your house, and buying a lot of gifts.
What is a Big Deal?
Have you ever faced the excitement of getting a brand new toy or a piece of electronics growing up just to get slammed with the disappointment of “Where are the batteries?” Me too, and it hurts the most on the Christmas day, when kids are excited to open the boxes and start playing with the new toys and gadgets, but the nearby stores are closed. And being the good parent, you are, you wouldn’t like to start your Christmas morning with “Here is a game, but you will play with it later, when I get to the store to buy the batteries”.
Who are the people who forget the batteries?
- Grandparents, because they are just too excited to get the actual toy
- Distant friends and relatives, because they are just working through their shopping list
- You, because you are just busy, exhausted, and think that you still have some batteries left somewhere.
Your Solution?
The best way to deal with the battery shortage in the house during the holiday season is to create an emergency box and fill it with the batteries of the variety of sizes. I bet you will have an opportunity to dig into the battery supply box more than once this season
What batteries to buy?
Of course, you have many choices and from the outside the dollar store batteries look as good as the ones by the brands you know and love. Quality batteries vs. cheap batteries. If you are buying a gift for someone you are not planning to see ever again, go cheap, but in all other cases save the frustration of changing batteries often – go with what you know.
Stick with the names you trust! Club stores sell great bundles of batteries – just put a bow and you have a perfect stocking stuffer. Amazon also offers great options and don’t forget to check the store specials (batteries will be on sale often during the holiday season). That reminds me – I better stock up myself while they on sale!

We keep a supply of Duracell batteries under the sink so that we never run out. Our power goes out on a regular basis so I always want to be sure that our flashlights will run

I am always the one who is so sure we have batteries in the house than zilch, upset kids because toys won’t operate and I’m running to the store on Christmas Day. Thanks for the reminder!

Oh man, we have to keep our home STOCKED with batteries for sure. With two kids 7 and 6 just about everything in the house needs them at some point. There is just no point to buying the generic brands.

It is so disappointing to not to be able to play with all of the new toys you have received on Christmas Day. Batteries should be on every parent’s shopping list.

The worst is not having batteries on hand! Especially when it comes to the kids! So worth just keeping them all stocked up 🙂
