These days my number one priority is keeping me and my tiny new baby healthy, right? Not really – I don’t live in the bubble and my well being strongly depends on other members of my family. My loved ones leave the house every morning, interact with others, forget to wash hands, touch railings, hug friends, and bring home germs. There is not much I can do about all these while sitting at home, but leave a big sign by the door.
However, once they are inside, I have an action plan I am happy to share with you today
Wash Your Hands
This seems like a no brainer, yet most members of my family forget about it. “What? I already washed my hands today!” is what I usually hear. Wash your hands after you get home, any time you think you might need to, and absolutely every time before touching the baby.
Cover Your Mouth
Cough or Sneeze – cover your mouth. Even if you are not sick, it is a good habit to keep your sneezes covered. And remember, a newborn is not immune to the germs you release into the air.
Strengthen Your Immune System
You might not be perfect at taking your vitamins, but if you have a baby in the house, you better get working on boosting your immune system. Vitamin C is a great start and Probiotic will also help your gut flora to maintain your immune system.
Act Fast
Whenever you feel a symptom, don’t just hope for better – act fast! I have to give it to my husband, every time he feels a bit off, he takes NyQuil and goes to sleep early – this is his way of dealing with early symptoms of flu and cold. Take plenty of rest and drink a lot of liquids.

I was SO paranoid about my boys getting sick when they were infants. You have some great prevention tips here.

We were also very careful about who we let around our babies, but everyone wanted to touch and hold them! We couldn’t tell them ‘no’, so we relented…

I’m like Scott, I wanted to keep everything away but everyone wanted to hold our daughter.

Best way not to get sick is to eat healthy and take in plenty of probiotics and vitamin C. I would hope that most people are mindful of the fact that you shouldn’t be sick around a newborn. I got sick with my last one but thank goodness I was breastfeeding so it didn’t hit him too hard. We recovered quick.

When I cough and sneeze, I definitely cover my mouth, but I usually don’t do it with my hand because then that’s contaminated. I usually turn into my shoulder to prevent it from going out into the air towards anyone else. I’m also a HUGE hand washer!

I always kept and coughing and sneezing people away.

It’s so important to keep germs away when there is a new baby in the house. I wish people would try to be more considerate about this.
