Three Doors that Open When You Learn How to Swim - Yes, being a great swimmer is an excellent skill but let’s talk about all the other opportunities that it will open for your child! #learntoswimg #swimming #Way2GoodLife #swimteam

This post has been sponsored by Goldfish Swim School in Mundelein,
but the research and desire to share the information is all mine

Are you thinking about signing your child up for swim lessons? You will be surprised to find out the opportunities that become available to them once they become an independent swimmer.  Not only is this a lifelong skill that your child will have, but it is also an essential life-saving skill.  It is one of the few sports that you can start even as a baby.

Yes, being a great swimmer is incredible but how about other opportunities that it will open for your child? There are many possibilities that become available to them once they become independent swimmers. Let’s talk about those opportunities!

Three Doors that Open When You Learn How to Swim

School sports

By learning how to swim, you open the door for your child to participate in many aquatic sports. In addition to the swim team, they can join the swim polo team, synchronize swimming, diving, or any other sports they would like to try.  They learn, “I can do this!” when they get to swim, which gives them the self-trust they need to pursue anything else they would like to learn.

Swimming is one of those few workouts that focus on working out the entire body.  There is a reason why kids are super hungry and tired after a day at the pool.  By learning the basics of swimming and becoming strong swimmers, they now have an extensive list of water sports that they can potentially participate in.

It is also an excellent way to find out how to be a great teammate and competitor, teaching them sportsmanlike conduct and encouraging one another.

Making friends

Swimming is an excellent way to open your child’s social circle.  Taking swim lessons is a great way for them to meet new friends and learn how to interact socially.  Swimming is also a great way for children to build their confidence to go out there and make friends independently.

Swimming also gives them the self-confidence to participate in fun activities like a birthday pool party, going out on a boat, or even playing fun swim games with their friends. Being able to participate in activities like this means that they are less likely to feel left out.

Opportunities for School Scholarships

While getting a scholarship in any sport is not an easy task, by signing your kids up for lessons to learn how to swim, you are giving your child more opportunities and more access to scholarships out there.  With lots of hard work and talent, your child can be one of the lucky ones who can achieve a school scholarship for swimming.

If the goal is achieving a scholarship for swimming, you can help too! To be a part of this goal, you need to learn how to balance school work, swim, and leisure time. All of these are essential skills to have as a student-athlete and as an adult. These are skills that help teach your child to be independent and how to become a team player. It also helps to teach kids how to thrive under pressure to work towards a goal.

A kid’s skills from their time train to work towards a swimming scholarship are essential skills that they will use for the rest of their life. Even if they don’t get a scholarship, that’s ok! These skills are essential and ones that they will use for the rest of their life.

It’s a life long exercise as well. Often as you age sports become more challenging or less accessible but their are pool work outs that last long into senior life for those who are comfortable in the pool.
