She didn’t sneak into my room late at night – she was actually quite tactical about it. When the box showed up at the house, she waited for me to come home and offered her help opening it.
“What is it?”
“The Bean N Read Hands Free Light. You can wear it around the neck to light up personal space.”
“Really?” She was looking at the black box with lights trying to find the neck strap. “Do you know what it is great for? Reading or doing crossword puzzles.”
“You don’t say,” I said going through my mail.
“I can totally use it when I read books on Kindle. Does it adjust? Yep, that’s better,” she had the box hanging on her neck and was walking around trying to get my attention.
“Wow – it does look good on you”, I was starting to enjoy the infomercial.
“Look!” She figured out how to make it work “it’s great for reading too and for sewing!”
In a short period of time grandma tried my Beam-n-Read with variety of things – reading, nail filling… She also discovered that the box also came with 2 clip-on filters: Red for night vision and orange – for softer light. Plus she found the Magnifier and gave it a trial run.
I truly enjoyed the presentation, but was surprised to find Beam-n-Read on grandma’s table few days later. She continues using it around the house and I am not asking for it back. I am calling it my early Christmas present. Maybe she will let me borrow it once in a while though.
