Until very recently, my 5-year old son was a baby in the family. He is incredibly stubborn and independent, but in reality, he is a mama’s boy. Ask him if he is a little kid and he will cringe: “I am BIG” and he would get on his tiptoes up as high as he can. He hates when his older sister bosses him around, yet he follows where she goes, and he wants to be just like her. This year our family welcomed a baby boy, and my original baby has suddenly become the middle child. Lately, he has been spotted in his stroller, in the baby’s car seat, trying on baby clothes, getting into some serious fights with his sister and you know – the boy needs attention.
Because the bigger sibling is the first born and typically an over-achiever, they are the most important and get the most privileges. A younger sibling is the ‘baby’ of a family and gets away with more as well as being the most looked-after. Middle-child syndrome starts when the middle child is squeezed between these two and has trouble finding his ‘niche’ in the family. Source: Urban Dictionary
And what is the best way of showing a little boy how special he is, then surprising him with something yellow, completely adorable, and despicable.
Blueprint to Surprising a 6-year old with a Minions Birthday
It is easy to order a Minion cake and throw Minion table clothes for the Minion part, but how about surprising a kid on his actual birthday with all things Minion? The search took us to the local Walmart:
Minion Birthday Card
Hallmark has a great line of the Minion cards out for sale: each cute Minion birthday card comes with a small toy Minion and a clip. Creative? Yes. One of a kind? Absolutely? Adorable? You bet!
I love the variety of options as they show off different moments from the movie Minions and remind you the hilarious characters.
What makes a good gift great is the element of surprise and with the packing material by Hallmark; you will get a great looking gift. I picked the yellow ribbon, yellowish bag with canary yellow wrapping paper inside.
Minion Bed Sheets
My son is a sound sleeper, and we picked a set of the Minions bed sheets. While he was as asleep, we moved him to a different bed, changed the sheets, and put his bed – my, he is getting heavy!
Yellow lemon drops cake bites for the family and a piece of cake for a birthday boy – TADA!
Morning and we are all giddy from the excitement:
The birthday boy sits in his bed trying to wake up, attempting to understand what is going on and figure out how to respond to everything at the same time: What? Am I 6? Am I 6? He doesn’t quite understand where the Minion bed sheets came from, excited about the big bang: the gift, the cake. Just he finished licking off the frosting from his birthday cake; the sister handed him a greeting card just from her with an adorable minion toy – BEST. MORNING. EVER!
Do you have Minion kids? I find that my newly 6-year old has a lot more in common with these yellow friends than he would care to admit.
