When my two older kids were babies, I discovered baby wipes and never stopped using it. Even past the baby stage, wipes saved me from the mess, germs, dust – you name it. I would have a big box riding in my minivan waiting for dirty hands and accidental mess. After the Baby #3 came along, it seemed like a no-brainer to get any brand that was on sale for the happy and clean baby bottom.
However, I found out fairly early that my new baby’s skin is way too sensitive for any wipes – I needed to look for alternatives.
The Worst Mother in the World
We all go through it. We blame ourselves for the little things – anything that makes our baby unhappy. If the newborn relies on his mother completely, she has to be perfect, right? However, the reality is that we are tired, sleep deprived and always playing catch up. I felt like the worst mother in the world when I wiped my baby’s bottom with the wipes I had near by in the middle of the night and got an agonizing cry in response. What did I do????
Water Wipes are Full of Water
I found a package of these in my swag bag I don’t even remember where it came from. The little I knew that this little package will become my trusted wipes brand and will keep my baby bottom clean without irritation. Did you know that newborn babies’ skin is 5 times thinner than adults?
What’s in your wipes? This is what an average Wipes label might look like:
Water, Potassium Laureth Phosphate, Glycerin, Polysorbate 20, Tetrasodium EDTA, Methylparaben, Malic Acid, Methylisothiazolinone, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Tocopheryl Acetate
Here is a list of the Ingredients for the Waterwipes – hey, these are chemical free and I can actually pronounce every ingredient:
99.9% water and 0.1% grapefruit seed extract (dried grapefruit seed/pulp, vegetable glycerin, and ascorbic acid.)
What is it about these wipes?
To be perfectly honest, I don’t usually trust travel pouches of wipes with a sticky closure, because, let’s face it, we all have seen wipes that dry out before we are done with the pack. However, WaterWipes surprised me – this wipe on the picture below is as moist as the first was in this pack. Actually, the company suggests that a sealed package will keep its properties for up to 15 months and recommends to use an opened WaterWipes package within 1 month.
Here is another news – unlike many other wipe brands, WaterWipes are not interfolded. This allows for the sterile environment within the package to be maintained. Don’t ask me how, but it does sound pretty cool!

I have used Waterwipes before, and really love them! My daughter had such sensitive skin as a baby, I had to be so careful about what I used on her. I am a huge fan of less is more, so these are definitely the way to go!
You know what, this sounds really good. Once I’m done with our wipes, I think I will try these. I like using wipes for quick kid cleaning – like hands and faces, not just baby bums. Knowing this one isn’t full of chemicals, makes me feel better about using them on my kids – especially their faces! Thanks! (Going to put it in our Amazon cart now!)
These look awesome. One of my boys has a bowel issues and we still rely on wipes here and there. These look kind on the hiney!
I have never tried WaterWipes, but I sure want to for my son. He has allergies and sensitive skin and I have yet to find a wipe that doesn’t leave him with some sort of irritation. These look like the perfect solution!
Keeping these in the car would come in handy with kids of all ages. Mine still get car sick sometimes. I bet this would be great for cleaning around my son’s mouth after he eats too.
I hadn’t heard of WaterWipes before, but I think I’ll try them out. Thanks for the recommendation!
I haven’t heard of this brand over here in the UK, but as a mom of children with sensitive skin, these would be lovely to use.
These would have been a lifesaver for me when my son was little. He had such horrible skin issues, and I ended up having to make my own water wipes with pieces of flannel soaked in water in a plastic container. It made travelling a challenge when he was in diapers.
This is something I have not thought much about, but I definitely like products that have as few ingredients as possible.
