It is insane how much families these days rely on electronics. It might make a very quiet evening at home with my older kids spending some quality time on the tablets (sometimes they are actually playing with each other on the tablets while sitting in two different rooms). Even my youngest gets the jitters when he sees my iPhone.
Try disconnecting them and they will complain for hours who incredibly boring their life is. However, we all understand that we need to get the family back together and spend some quality time in the same room.
Supplies you will need:
Get a big bowl and mix the craziest snack mix you can possibly think about. I am not joking – get all your favorites. We went with the Goldfish Crackers, Sixlets, and popcorn. The trick is to ONLY HAVE ONE BOWL on the table.
Yes, I am aware that eating these straight out of the box is way more fun, but remember the goal – we want to spend time together as a family, don’t we?
Game:
Once the bowl is in place, you are ready to party – a board game, an engaging conversation or even a family quiet observation of what is up outside. This is your family time and you can do whatever you want with it.
But wait, this game has a rule – anyone breaking the family fun circle is not allowed to touch the party mix for 5 minutes (10 – if you are that kind of mother). To spice up the game keep a few surprise ingredients and bring them up while someone is in a temporary party mix time out. Small pouches of candy like gummy bears, chocolate square or even some cereals would work great!
And speaking of the star of our party mix – I am sure you know Goldfish crackers, but I just have to mention a few more things. It is always Baked with Real Cheese and has no Artificial Flavors or Preservatives. Goldfish crackers are baked with Whole Grain Cheddar has 12 g of WG per serving with Colors Sourced from Plants, such annatto extracted from the reddish seeds of the Achiote Tree.
