Paint Something Beautiful – Polka Dot Pots #spon

Every year my family looks forward to this trip – we spend a whole week at the Wilderness Resort in Wisconsin Dells. December in Wisconsin is not particularly a hot season and that is what we like about it. We spend a week in the indoor waterparks without crowds of people, go to empty restaurants, and enjoy family time.  Ah, there is one more thing – we do A LOT of pottery painting in the Polka Dot Pots studio. Indeed we spent a lot of time painting different things and that is how we make memorable gifts for our family back home. My daughter loves picking the pieces with people she loves in mind.

The Polka Dot Pots studio has two locations:

one – at the Wilderness Hotel & Golf Resort in Wisconsin Dells, WI
and the second – at the Wilderness at the Smokies in Smoky Mountains, TN

If you plan to  visit Wilderness resort (especially in winter) keep in mind that soaking in the hot tub or floating down the lazy river is not the only thing you can do.

Pottery Painting. What’s that?

It seems like everyone here knows what to do – they pick paint boxes, wash brushes and go back to tables to create something cool. This is the time when I usually feel intimidated, but not here: Rachel, the owner and our generous host gave me no reason to feel unwelcome. Anyone who is new to the pottery painting goes for a quick tour around the room. A few minutes later and I can look as important as everyone else in this room.

What should I paint?

I love all the choices this place has to offer – from miniature figurines to something big and fundamental, it will probably take a few minutes before you decide which one of these you want to do first.

Too young to paint?

For obvious reasons you would not bring an infant or a toddler to this place, but my daughter just turned three the first time she came here and walked away with a great masterpiece. Start small and see how your young kid does, and if the attention span is not his forte, just come back the next day and continue working on your piece.

Too old to paint?

It is really a place for kids, right? Nothing can be further from the truth. I have seen so many families at the Polks Dot Pots and everyone found something interesting to work with – while a son painted a car of his dream, his father was worked hard on a Packers helmet.

My husband takes this craft very seriously. Over the years it is difficult for me sometimes to determine  where daddy’s work ends and my daughter’s work begins.

Want to be a real pro?

Polka Dot Pots also has something special for anyone who is looking to take it up a notch – there are many video tutorials available online. I picked a couple to share with you here, but so many more are available on Polks Dot Pots site.

What screams your name: a monster or a skateboard?

We have a similar place near us. My kids love it! They are great for rainy days, snow days, and birthday parties too.

I know that we had a place like this back in Florida. Looks like fun, and I know that a couple of my grandkids would love this. I’ll have to see if there is anywhere local that offers this.
    Thanks so much for sharing!

I did something very similar as a child, with my mom. Places like Polka Dot Pots are great for children’s birthday parties, and even a ladies night out. Looks like a fun spot!
