4 years ago I decided to cross into the new century by buying a smart phone. Slightly irritated by all the noise around the iPhone, I was determined not to buy it, because all the cool kids where marching around with it. After spending 2 months searching and talking totally non-biased sales people at the store, I made my decision – I bought an iPhone. There was nothing out there that could of possibly measure up to the mighty iPhone. That is how I became an iPhone fan!
Fast forward 4 years. The iPhone is still great and each new version is so much cooler than a previous one, but is it still the number one phone on the market? Knowing how Apple products are different from Windows product, is it even possible to switch without a major headache?
This is the place where I am legally required to tell you that the brand new Samsung Galaxy Phone S4 Active was sent to me free of charge for attending an event hosted by AT&T. However, I already fulfilled my obligations to AT&T by posting this post, so anything I say here is mine and mine only.
IPhone vs. Samsung
There is a huge difference between the two. When it comes to the iPhone, it is not the same as using a Mac computer. It doesn’t behave like a computer and at this point of time it can’t replace a personal computer (if you are used to rely on one). When it comes to a Windows based phone, it is an actual computer with everything that is good and bad. It can sometimes crash, but it also can be controlled like a typical computer. I have always loved the task manager function (and have greatly missed it since switched to Mac).
First and foremost, if iPhone is your best friend, I can guarantee you will be uncomfortable at first, because the difference is H–U-G-E. However, I have to give it to Samsung guys – they work their hardest to make the switch as painless as possible.
Believe it or not, you can use your iPhone SIM with the Samsung Galaxy – just pull it out of one and plug into another one.
From iPhone to Samsung
Free app by Samsung will help you make the switch. Back up your iPhone first and launch the program. Besides moving your personal info and data, Smart Switch will also run through the list of apps: will find compatible Android versions of your Apple apps, suggest to buy those that are paid or download free versions of the same apps. For any applications that are not available by Android, it will suggest similar apps.
Cutting Edge Features
This might be a bit freaky, but this phone can follow your movements. It can scroll your email up and down following your head tilt and flip pages following your non-contact air gestures
It also supports multi windows and the screen can allow to have two windows see by side
S-Beam – that is what you so in the commercial – touch another phone and share files (as long as you stay in a certain radios)
This is a short list of features I discovered so far and I am sure the list goes on.
Believe it or not this phone can function underwater. Don’t plan on going diving with it without extra equipment, but it is capable to work in up to a meter under water up to 30 minutes at a time. It is also a perfect beach companion and is not a afraid of sand. Note! You have to make sure that your phone’s back cover is completely sealed. Double check it before through your phone into the fish tank.
If you want more features and more flexibility, Samsung Galaxy has a bucket full to offer and it’s Active model has even more. Despite the fact that the Galaxy is bigger than iPhone, the buttons are bigger if you prefer to talk with your fingers. If you like the good old and have ordered the same drink at the bar for the last 10 years, stick with an iPhone – you trust it and it won’t disappoint you. If your friends call you a gadget boy/girl, go for it – Samsung Galaxy S4 Active has a lot to offer.
