My family takes swimming classes in winter at the Goldfish Swim School in Mundelein in exchange for social media coverage.

Do your children take swimming lessons?  Have they continued taking swim classes in the winter? Swimming is a skill that everyone should know, and it’s best that they learn how to swim when they are young.

Swimming lessons are available year round, yet many people tend to only think about sending their children to lessons during the summer weather. In reality, swimming lessons are important year round. According tot he Goldfish Swim School Mundelein, winter is a great time to get the kids in the pool working on their swimming skills!

If you are wondering about the benefits of taking swim classes in the winter, look no further than this list. This list will give you a little rundown of just some of the reasons that your kids should continue with their lessons, even when the weather gets colder and the days get darker.

Benefits Of Taking Swimming Classes In The Winter

Unfortunately, the outdoor swimming season in the Midwest is only three months long, which isn’t much. The only solution is to continue swimming lessons in winter at swim school. I looked for options that could accommodate all three of my children. And that is how our longstanding friendship with the Goldfish swim school started.

There are many benefits to swimming classes for kids. Here are just a few of those benefits:

  • Keep up on their skills – Keeping their swimming skills fresh is important for kids, especially kids who haven’t been swimming long. Think about it. If you develop a skill and then you don’t do that particular skill again for 9 months, are you going to remember everything you learned?

The answer is likely no. Winter swimming lessons give kids the ability to keep those swimming skills up to date, while not losing those skills that they have learned.

  • Increased confidence – Additionally, the more lessons and training that they have, the more likely they are to have built their confidence in the water.

  • Social benefits – Kids in general, tend to spend more time inside during the winter maintain social relationships. When they maintain their swim class schedule over the winter, they are better able to maintain friendships with other kids who are taking swim classes.

  • Continued physical health – It’s harder to stay in good physical shape in the winter, but with continued swim classes for kids, they are getting the exercise they need.

Are Pools Sanitized in the Winter?

More people swim during the summer, which means that there is less time for the facility to perform in depth maintenance.  You will notice that most of this type of cleaning and maintenance is done during the winter months, which means a cleaner pool for your swimming lessons!

Do Kids Get Sick from Attending Swimming Classes in Winter?

It’s a common myth that being in the cold air makes kids sick. Many have even stressed the risk of having wet hair in the cold air makes kids sick. It doesn’t. Cold air doesn’t lead to colds, viruses do.

Regular exercise, such as with swim classes for kids, helps to boost immune systems so swim classes in winter might be a good prevention for winter colds.

What to Wear After Swimming in Winter?

You or your kids may be wondering what to wear after swimming in winter, and that’s a great question. Since they are likely going to be going from a heated pool area to the cold air outside so you want to make sure that they have layers. Many people choose sweat pants or workout pants of some kind, a warm shirt and either a hoodie or jacket (or both).

Do you send your children to swimming classes?  Will you be keeping them enrolled in swimming classes during the winter?

I think my initial thought is that winter swimming sounds really silly. After you realize the pool is indoors and that all the facilities are heated, then everything makes perfect sense. I’ve been looking at swimming lessons for some younger kids and this might be the perfect solution in my area. Thanks for the awesome tips and advice on swimming lessons!
