A few days ago I went to my local Walgreens just to discover that there is literally a medical office in the back of the store next to the pharmacy. That had to be new, but when I inquired about the facility, the answer was: “We have been here for almost 3.5 years.”
I have noticed that Walgreens pharmacy part of the store has changed, but how could I miss the entire health clinic? The new open floor plan is quite attractive: big waiting area, two rooms for the patients and just 10 steps away from the pharmacy, this sure looks like an attractive alternative to a traditional doctor’s office. You should definitely consider it if don’t have a regular doctor, new to the area or visiting. It seems like any time we go on vacation we have to deal with health issues for either us or the kids (from the common cold to a concussion) that requires a trip to a pharmacy, doctor or the ER.
Healthcare Clinic vs. Emergency room
Ever wondered what to do if something happened to you on the weekend. Sometime it seems like ER is your only option, but every time we have a benefit meeting we have at work warned us to stay away from it unless it is the only option (have you seen an average ER bill?). Unlike most of the doctors offices, health clinics are open 7 days a week and they also take walk-ins, but….
In case if you wondered, the clinics do get busy and sometimes very busy. Especially with kids going back to school so many go to the clinic for an appointment and often by 11 am there are no appointments left for the day. So instead of running to the nearest Walgreens, go online and check the appointment availability. I did go to the site myself at 11.30 am just to find out that the next available appointment is tomorrow morning and the walking wait time is over 2 hours long.
I do have to agree it is pretty cool that I can get an appointment at the health clinic through Walgreens website They accept most of the major insurance payment and a visit without insurance would cost you $89.
When would you want to come to the health clinic
A minimum age for a patient here is 18 months and the clinic here treats a variety of health issues: minor injuries, cold and flues, vaccinations, skin conditions, illnesses, aches and pains, Physician and health visits. I also found out from the staff at the clinic, that they now also care for health condition management like asthma, diabetes, headache, joint pain, and so many more. There is also an option of preventive services without a long wait of the doctor’s office.
What else does the clinic have to offer?
I also discovered a health corner on the other side of the waiting area along with a schedule of the upcoming events hosted by local businesses – neighborhood library teaches mature adults to use e-book reader and a hospital discusses common Cholesterol misconceptions.
