There is a troll under my bed
Even at my best, the self-doubt troll is still there. It is sitting in the dark waiting to kick, knock down, and stuff my face with chocolate and candies.
It doesn’t matter how well I do with my weight loss and healthy lifestyle, it always seems like I don’t do well enough. I might be having the best week, but all it takes for me to see my buttocks in the mirror and the momentum is completely ruined and I just want a cookie.

When the troll attacks, we need to learn to
FIND THE TROLL AND FIGHT BACK:
- Is your friend a troll? If your friend makes you feel like crap, it is time to move on. You don’t need more critics – you need more cheerleaders!
- Are you a troll? Nobody is more critical and mean to you as yourself. Nobody else sees your pimples. Next time you want to tell yourself something negative, find something nice to say instead.
- DO NOT keep crap comfort food in the house! You don’t need them! Your kids don’t need them! If your husband needs them, he can buy it and eat them elsewhere.
- Do you remember an Adam Sandler’s character singling “I feel pretty” in the “Anger Management” movie on the bridge. Learn this song and sing it to yourself every morning before leaving home.
- If you are down, getting kicked by self-doubt troll and just want a doughnut, you have my permission to have one IF you can get naked in front of the mirror first.

I remember when I went on Weight Watchers and dropped 50lbs. I intellectually knew I looked better. I was wearing a size 4 but still when I looked in the mirror I was still seeing the older version of me. I understand the “troll” completely. You have great tips there to help combat it!

Thank You. It is so weird how it works, isn’t it?

I was doing so good at losing weight…then about 3 months ago I just stopped trying! The past two weeks I have been back on the path of my weight loss journey again and it feels so good! I think for me my ‘troll’ is having to prepare different meals and such for myself then I do for my family. It can be hard to see them eating my favorite foods.

I just went through exactly this problem. It took some major planning and weekly printouts for me to get back into the planning mode

I do really good with working out and reward myself….with McDonalds. I am my own worst enemy!
Way 2 Good Life says
LOL – Oh, I know this reward system very well

Loved that movie. It’s hard to remember that some days.
Way 2 Good Life says
I am so with you

what you say about trolls is so true, especially about being your own worst troll. I need to get back in the habit of reciting positive affirmations
Way 2 Good Life says
Let’ start singling together: I feel pretty… So pretty….

LOL! What a coincidence. I actually saw Anger Management again on TV today. And ugh, speaking of weight loss, I’ve gained 10 lbs over the last couple months.
Way 2 Good Life says
I did 17 lbs in 6 months last year – and OMG – it is so much easier to gain than lose it
SHELLEY R ZUREK says
I love that your recognize that trolls can be people or things or thoughts!
Way 2 Good Life says
Oh yeah…

I have I Feel Pretty stuck in my head now. Thanks! Lol!

I am so there with you on the friend thing. I have recently realized that I do not have the “support” system that I thought I did. Time to move on! On the food troll, when I lost all of my weight and I had a major craving, I would literally eat one bite and throw the rest away. I am too phobic to pull something out of the garbage and eat it. Like you said, it is best to not have your weaknesses in your house. Good post!

For me it is about failure and wanting to end the program. I love hearing that you can start over at any time, It helps for a lot of things!

I have to get the junk out of my house. I have no willpower when I’m tired/sick/bored. I still buy a treat here and there for the kiddos, but if it’s something that’s going to be in the house for more than a day or two it has to be something I don’t like.
Kathy Godbey says
Crazy how we can defeat ourselves with those thoughts. I want nothing but comfort goodies when I’m stressed. Thanks for the kick in the pants. LOL

Just like in the movies, it is time to kick the troll aside and cross that bridge!
