It seems funny, but any time I mention fish oil to my friends, they respond – Ewwwh! I think I probably was the only kid in my hometown who actually liked good old smelly fish oil. However, the fish oil I am planning to talk about has come a long way from being the oil you love to hate.
I started giving my babies Nordic Naturals Fish Oil as soon as my doctor said it was OK. Along with other supplements I think I have built a good immunie system for both of my kids. However, I just recently realized that giving my kids the right supplements, doesn’t mean that I am giving the same to myself. Don’t laugh, but I really had no idea that I was not taking the supplements myself mainly because I have paid such a close attention daily to my kids vitamins.
What do you need to know about fish oil
Fish oil supplements range widely in terms of quality. Ask these questions to determine the right, safe, effective, and great-tasting omega oil:
- Is it pure of contaminants like mercury, lead, etc.?
- Is oxidation minimized throughout the processing?
- Does it smell because of poorly manufactures oil?
Reading the label
- Omega-3 product labels and supplements fact panel can be confusing. Make sure to read the supplements facts to know which EPA and DHA you are getting. American Heart Association recommends a combined daily total of 500 milligrams (mg) EPA + DHA for a healthy adult. However, If the label says 1000 mg soft gel, it really only refers only to the size of the soft gel, not the levels of EPA and DHA. The average 1000 mg fish oil softgel typically provides around 300 mg of omega-3s (even less of the important EPA and DHA), and so in order to meet the 500 mg intake guidelines, a minimum of two softgels would be necessary.
What does make a Nordic Naturals a trusted brand?

Not all fish oil supplements are created equal – you have to pick a good quality supplement and the name brand you trust. For me it is Nordic Naturals – I have trusted my kids health to it since they were babies, and it has never disappointed me. Thank You Nordic Naturals for reminding me to take better care of myself with ultimate Omega-D3.
